Beijing, China -- China Radio International (CRI) to increase more cooperation on media and promote more listeners in Laos next year.

Director of Southeast Asia Broadcasting Centre from CRI Ms An Xiaoyu said last week that they plan to have more cooperation with Lao media next year because these day they just cooperate with Lao National Radio so they would like various information from Laos for their radio.

“This is an activity to mark the 50th Anniversary of establishment of the diplomatic relations between Laos and China on April 25, 1961 to April 25, 2011. So we have various plan to cooperate with Lao side to promote both listeners,” he said.

Mr Xiaoyu believed that CRI will be a bridge to increase the tightening people of both countries.

The radio has established Lao language since 1956 in FM to provide information on culture and news from both Laos and China.

The cooperation between Lao and China government have more tightening every year since then, 2006 the CRI has opportunity to open FM 93 MHz in Laos for increasing exchange on cultural and media.

“It was the greatest time for us to have Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and Chinese Presidents Hu Jintao held to open the radio, while Mr Hu visiting Laos at that time,” Mr Xiaoyu explained.

Then, CRI also created website in Lao language for the radio to promote information of both countries to world in the new century.

Lao language department’s Deputy Director Mr Li jianxiang said that since 2006, we asked Lao language expert from to help us on editing Lao language and doing some programme at the department. So we got a Lao Expert from Lao National Radio name Mr Sangkhane Choumkhamphanh or know as Noum Yai Alom Dee (happiness elder person).

“He help us a lot on working in this department, he got many experience on news and Lao language.”

Mr Sangkhane said that first two year was very challenge for me because they just change from AM to FM so changing from one hour to six and half hours so a lot of work.

“I am both editors and teacher here to teach them how to create programme and how to speak on entertaining programme and others. Because when it was AM those Chinese people just read news from the paper but changing to be FM there are 70 percent of entertaining programme so I have to teach them how to work on it because some of them are weak on speaking Lao language,” Mr Sangkhan explained.

He suggested that Lao language department of CRI should increase more native language experts because two or three experts not enough for working on this.

“Another language department they have at least five experts helping each other but our department on three,” Mr Sangkhane said.

CRI has established for almost 70 years with 61 languages around the world. Now it has about 32 stations around the world, four stations in Asian including Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macao.

Director Xiaoyu said CRI studio in Vientiane will be completed soon and it will be good to help on promote information of both countries on celebration of the diplomatic relation because during the previous work, they faced a different time between Beijing and Vientiane so problem will be solved after the construction complete.

These days, there about 2,000 listeners feedback to the Lao language radio. The department will increase more activities like general knowledge quiz and give them prize.

CRI will try the best to increase cooperation and exchange information between Lao and China people next year to celebrate 50th anniversary of establishment relation between Laos.
