Laos, China to celebrate 50th diplomatic relations

Beijing, China – Lao and China met last week to discuss the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Laos and China on April 25, 1961 to April 25, 2011.

Laos-China Friendship Association delegations visited Beijing China last week led by the Association President Dr Sinlavong Khoudphaythoun, the main objective of the visit was to prepare for the celebration of the diplomatic relations between two countries next year.

Dr Sinlavong spoke to Vientiane Times that both Lao delegations and Chinese officials have discussed on the celebration the establishment of diplomatic relationship next year to be meaningful and sprightliness.

“Both Laos and China will arrange a meeting to discuss and negotiate about the business investment, cooperation. The China side also pledged to assign cultural sectors of both countries to discuss on the exchange cultural performance during the celebration next year,” he explained.

Dr Sinlavong added that the China side will also send some footballers to play with Lao team before the celebration as well as other activities related to the diplomatic of every sectors.

The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Laos and China is very important for the government and people of both countries. 2011 will be a big celebration of those countries.

Laos and China relations have traditionally consisted of trade and aid, largely in road construction in the northern provinces of Laos as well as investment, education cooperation and others.

According to China Ministry of Foreign Affairs official website reported that China and Laos are friendly neighbours linked with mountains and waters, and the people of the two countries have co-existed in peace and harmony since the ancient times.

On April 25, 1961, China and Laos established diplomatic relations and have maintained neighbourly and friendly relations ever since.

Over the last ten years and more, Sino-Lao relations have seen comprehensive restoration and development and exchanges of visits between leaders of the two countries become frequent. President Jiang Zemin, Premier Li Peng and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC Qiao Shi visited Laos respectively while President of Laos Kayson Phomvihane and Nouhak Phoumsavanh, Premier Khamtay Siphandone, and Bounnhang Vorachith, President of the National Assembly Samane Vignaket and Central Chairman of the Nation-Building Front Sisavath Keobounphan visited China many times.

The two countries have witnessed growing friendly contacts and cooperation in the political, economic, military, cultural and health fields, and maintained close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
